Aquatica

This is a shop I ran across while checking out other shops in the same shopping complex. I stopped in just to peak and was amazed at what I saw. It isn't quite a pet shop. And to say it is a fish shop would be an understatement. They sell fish as well as live coral and other plants. Maybe I'm dumb, but I don't think I ever realized people buy live plants for their fish; I always just picture the plastic fake stuff. But this is the real deal. Serious fish owners need to know about this place. Or if you are like me and just want to feel cool by owning live coral and such. Either way, check out this posh water creature habitat.

Lengendary Changes!!!!

Hey everyone!!!! Angela here. I hope you enjoy the new background and view of the blog. I've also added more label categories. You can now search based on location. Enjoy!!!!!

The Sweet Tooth Fairy

I've driven by this place many, many times in the six years that I've lived in Provo. But somehow I've never noticed this place. It's another one of those super cute bakeries that I think are lovely and wonderful. Not to mention the name of this shop is absolutely adorable!!!!!! I got a frosted oatmeal cookie when I went and YUM YUM YUM!!!!!! I could get fat from those cookies. Go try it out and tell me what treat you tried and if you liked it or not.

Evan's Gatehouse

I felt like a little elf walking around Santa's workshop. Christmas decorations everywhere and HUGE decorations. Enormous trees, over-sized ornaments, gigantic bows and all sorts of other large ornaments. Everyone should visit here during the holiday season simply to feel like a little child again. You walk around in wondrous awe because everything is so beautiful and large. Very fun experience. A great place for Christmas decorations and other household decorations as well.

7 Circles

Did you ever think you could get a pair of Liz Claiborne pants for $3? Well, I am wearing said pair of pants. Okay, so I used a coupon and got 50% off. But that means that without the coupon they would have been $6!!! Seriously! Yes! This store has great clothes at great prices. The store purchases the clothes from other stores with extra inventory, store returns and year end closeouts. And the savings get passed on to you! It's great. They are only open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, but I think that makes them even more special. They have mens, womens and childrens clothing. "Seriously great deals!"

Little Cheeks Children's Boutique

The boutique is adorable. The owner is very friendly. She owns a lot of the products and is able to lower prices on the items she owns. The baby clothes are so adorable!

The t-shirts are made by the owner. She looked into ordering them through a company but she would then have to charge more for the shirts. So she makes them herself to ensure lower prices. The little shoes and hats and everything are so fun to look at. If you have a little one (as sadly I do not) or if you need a baby shower gift, this is a good place to look.

Rustic Log Furniture of Utah

I wish I owned a cabin because this is where I would shop to furnish said non-existent cabin. The furniture is so beautiful and solidly built. They have everything from chairs to bed to nightstands to porch swings and bookcases and lamps. It is some of the most beautiful furniture I've ever seen. You should definitely go here and just look at the beauty even if you don't have any intention of buying. It is definitely worth your time.

Pioneer Book

A lot of bookstores around Provo are mostly about buying and selling college textbooks. It was refreshing to walk into a bookstore that is a "real" used book store. You walk in and you instantly smell the wonderful scent of old books. I love it. The books were organized by category. It was so fun to look at the classics, the children books, Shakespear, etc. It was fun and the owner was very friendly and helpful. If you like old book like I do, go here and search for you own hidden treasures of literature.

Gypsy Wagon

As I was driving around Pleasant Grove, I saw this cute little store. I had absolutely no clue what to expect when I walked in. What do they sell here? Clothes? Jewelry? Food? I decided to just walk in and check it out. And guess what - they sell Gypsy stuff. If you are a gypsy - or a fan of gypsies - this is where you need to shop. They have alter kits, incense, spices, amulets, stones, tarot cards and everything gypsy. It was really neat. It was so unique and fun to see all these items. I never would have guessed this store would be full of gypsy supplies. But hello, it's the Gypsy Wagon. Check it out!

O'Scrap

When I first walked in here, it just seemed like a big messy warehouse. The entryway was kind of messy. But once I got inside, I was soooo excited. The owner was super nice. He gave me a little tour and explained prices. The prices are amazing!!!! You can buy things in bulk (it is a warehouse store after all) and the prices are incredible. You can also buy things individually. I had so much fun picking out die cuts. So much fun. I went home so amazingly excited about what I had purchased. I am definitely going back. It ruled!!!!!

The Bead Fairy

So many people out there are loving to make their own jewelry. Beaded watches are becoming increasingly popular. So when you have a hankering for beads, where do you go? The Bead Fairy. This is a cute little shop just full of all types of beads. Anything you want, it's there. They have little trays to carry around with you to sort your beads by price as you pick them out. The beads are all around the perimeter of the shop. They have every type and color of beads imaginable. It's pretty much awesome. And while most beads are purchase per bead, they have some nicer beads sold by the strand. The only weird thing is their purse policy. They have cubbies to keep your purses in while you shop. Each cubby has a key on a bracelet so you can get your purse when you are ready to check out. I guess beads would be really easy to sneak into your purse and steal.
All in all, if you need beads, see the Bead Fairy and your wish will be granted!

Sach's Family Dental

This is a different type of post than I normally have. This post is a DON'T GO HERE post. Ryan and I went to this dentist. I had a check up and no cavities - no biggie. All was well, insurance covered the whole thing. However, Ryan needed two root canals. We gave them all of our insurance information up front and asked about how much we were looking to pay out of pocket. We weren't expecting an exact number, but we did assume the number would be in the ballpark. Well, turns out it cost TWICE as much out of pocket than they had said. And we aren't talking a small amount. There is a HUGE difference between $800 and $1600. We were PISSED!!!! We complained. We explained that it wasn't our fault that we were given a completely incorrect estimate. We told them that if they were a car repair place, we would report them to the Better Business Bureau. But since they are doctors, we can't do anything about it. They claim it is up to the insurance to decide a lot of the pricing. We tried to explain that we gave all our insurance information to them up front for that very reason. We know they have a system that figures it all out for them. They just decided they could and would charge us more. Nothing we can do about it except never go back and tell others not to go there. We actually ended up with a $60 credit on our account (pennies compared to what we'd given them). And it was like pulling teeth (ha ha - he's a dentist) to get our $60 back. They wanted to keep it in our file for our next visit. Well, there never will be another visit here! NEVER NEVER NEVER!!!!! And even if there was, it would just be a completely insured checkup. At least we finally got our $60 back. Too bad we couldn't get anymore money back. Sigh. Oh well. Just do my a favor and never go here. That will make me feel like my money went to some sort of good cause. Thanks for listening to my rant!

Steve's Intermountain Auto Service

I love this place. Steve is a very nice and honest guy. We have had only good experiences here. When it comes to repairs, he knows his stuff. He has even told us what we can fix at home. Ryan is pretty handy with cars, so once Steve diagnoses the car, Ryan can fix a lot of it. And Steve is completely fine with us doing the work ourselves to save some money. The last time I was in, he said the car would be ready by 11:30 and that he would call me at the exact time it was ready. Since I had plans to use the car for a lunch date at noon, I was counting on his time estimate being accurate. At 11:20 he calls to say the car is ready. Bonus points for time management! My only complaint is that small things like oil changes and safety/emission tests require an appointment and take longer than other places. But on the bigger issues he is very fast compared to other places. He explains what is going on with the car and is very upfront about prices before he does any major work. Great place!

Deal of the Day Tracker

Have you heard of Woot.com? Have you heard of any other websites that sell one item at a time with a new item each day? Well, DOD Tracker is a website that puts all the deal sites in one convenient location. I love it! I do so much shopping through here. Last year I did a lot of Christmas shopping this way. And even if you don't have any money, it is so fun to see all the neat things for sale. Some items are great deals, some are funny and others are just cool. Check it out!!

Pizza Pie Cafe

Normally pizza buffets are not the best. You get all the pizza you want, but the pizza is lower quality. And while I would say that Pizza Pie Cafe is not an exception, the pizza is still REALLY good. I suppose I would prefer nation chains, but they don't give you all you can eat for one low price. And the dessert pizzas are AMAZING!!! And where else can you have baked potato and bacon on a pizza with sour cream??? It may not sound like a great thing, but trust me - Pizza and potatoes were meant to be friends. Try it! Especially try the oreo pizza. YUM!!!!!!

Exercise TV

This website has a four week workout plan. The videos stream online and are tons of fun. I'm not doing the actually plan, but when I have time I pick a video and go for it. I really like the people in the videos and the exercises they have you do. I wish I had more time to exercise more, but this is a great resource for workouts without spending money on videos or even a lot of equipment. I haven't looked through the entire Exercise TV website, so you could do that too if you'd like. Enjoy!

Images of Nature

Love, love, love, love this guy! His photographs are INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!! I went to one of his galleries today and I just cannot get over how awesome his work is. I've been there before, so when I was in Park City I HAD to stop by. We bought one of his newest pieces. There are only going to be 950 prints of High Five (the picture we bought) made which is very low compared to other prints. It has only been on sale for 6 weeks and is selling like crazy. The saleswoman was amazing. There were no "sales gimmicks"; there didn't need to be; the art sells itself. If you are in the market for art, go here!!!

Porter's

While visiting my sister in Rexburg, ID, I went to the local craft store. With Rexburg being such a small town, there isn't too much there. But Porter's has EVERYTHING you would ever need for crafts!!! It's incredible how large this store is and how much they have there! I found things there that I have never seen before. But then again, perhaps I wasn't looking for it elsewhere. Either way, this store is amazing and is all you would ever need to find materials for crafting. Forget Michael's, forget Robert's. Porter's is awesome!!!

Cafe Fresh

Very tasty. Very healthy. This place is a great one. Sandwiches, wraps, salads, fruit, soup, smoothies. It's not a bunch of processed stuff. The cafe is adorable. The workers are great. The menu options are amazing. I can't wait to go back and try something else. It's awesome! This isn't exactly the most descriptive or articulate post. But trust me; this place is good!

Bella Ella Boutique

This store is so cute! The things there are absolutely adorable. They have all sorts of things - necklaces, bracelets, hair accessories, shirts, rings, etc. I ended up buying some earrings and a crocheted hair clip. They have stuff for little girls, big girls, women, etc. Such cute stuff. Cute is really the best word for it. (So if you don't like cute, this place isn't for you.) So yeah, cute, cute, cute!!!!!!!!!

Christy's

At first I wasn't very excited to go to this place. I figured it would just be another home decor store and I've been to a thousand of them recently. I own too many things to decorate my home with because I keep finding all these awesome decorations at stores. However, I was NOT disappointed when I arrived at Christy's. Not only do they have home decor, they have antiques. I'm not really big into buying antiques (they either seem to cost a lot or they look like something for an old ladies house and I'm not that old yet :) But I LOVE looking at antiques. Dressers, tools cupboards, picture frames made out of old barns. It was so fun! They also had some dishes there (not antiques) that I fell in love with. Too bad we aren't in the market for new dishes. And when they are priced per piece it ends up being quite the expensive set. Sigh. Maybe someday. But you should totally go to Christy's and see what you think. To quote Reading Rainbow: Don't take my word for it.

Fast Food Taste Test

Ryan and I went to 6 different fast food places, bought the value menu burger and fries at each location and then did a taste test. Here are the results.

To get a little more specific...

*McDonald's burger had two patties. Pretty average across the board.

*Burger King's burger had lettuce. The king is supreme!! Just taste! (Though I do know that their chicken nuggets are waaaay worse the McDonald's.

*Carl's Jr.'s looked pretty sad, but was one of the best tasting ones and the largest portion. The fries also cost more than the others.

*Arctic Circle's food looked great, but wasn't one of the better tasting ones. And the portions were some of the smallest. Also, like Carl's Jr, the fries cost more than the others. To Arctic Circle's defense, the burger was not smashed like some others were and the burger had bacon on it.

*Dairy Queen's burger was flat and soggy. Both items cost $1.50 instead of the $1 you find at other locations. I love their fries though. And they give the largest portion of fries.

*Wendy's burger, like McDonald's had two patties. Somewhat on the low end of the taste spectrum, but they also offer other foods like chili and baked potatoes that the other places don't offer.

Enjoy your burgers and fries!!!!

Choose You

This website is associated with the American Cancer Society. This website is all about helping people stay healthy. And we all know that exercise, eating right, not smoking, using sunscreen are ways to help prevent cancer. On this site, you can sign up for free. Then you set personal goals like eating less sweets, exercising more, loosing weight, smoking less, etc. You set the goal. This website is a great way to report back how you are doing on your goal. One way to help be successful is to be accountable. One option you can choose is to have someone else report back if you are completing your goal or not. (You can also choose to report back yourself on the honor system.) Another option is to pledge money against your goal. If you choose this option, you pick how much money you pledge (any amount). If you succeed in your goal for that week, you owe nothing. If you don't succeed, then the amount you pledge is donated to the American Cancer Society.) Friends and Family can make pledges on your goal as well. But don't worry, pledges are optional. You can still make goals and report back how you are doing without owing anyone any money. I find this website helpful, informative, motivating and it supports a worthwhile cause. Check it out for yourself.

Main Street Diner

This place is in St. Peters, MO. Not my normal location to write about, but I went here and was very impressed. The food was absolutely excellent. The service was good. The atmosphere is exactly what I like. It was such a fun little place to go for breakfast. They only serve breakfast and lunch, but they also do catering. This is a wonderful alternative to Denny's or IHOP. Less crowded, great food, better experience. If you ever find yourself 20 miles west of St. Louis, stop by for a bite. Yum.

Parrish Place

This is a cute little Bed And Breakfast that Ryan and I went to for Valentines Day. We had never been to a B&B before, but it was so much fun. The home is so beautiful and the rooms are very nice. If you are looking for a B&B in the Salt Lake City area, try this one. They have a hot tub, internet, free drinks, a sun room, and breakfast brought to your room in the morning. It was a very nice experience.

Animal Ark

This is the pet store where I bought my baby puppy Lily. The pet shop is staffed with knowledgeable people and were very helpful when we adopted Lily. They give the puppy their first shots and give you a few days to get the dog to a vet for them to check out. And if something is wrong with the dog, they can refund the money. They also give you 20% off all your puppy supplies for a week after you buy the doggie. I still go there to buy her dog food and toys.
I bought some fish there once too. And they were very helpful when trying to decide which fish would live well together. They offer insurance for the fish (which I opted out of, but that's up to you.) I just like this place a lot.

Nickel City

Formerly known as the Nickelcade, this is a great family friendly arcade. They even have laser tag and food. This place is so much fun. And the games take nickels instead of quarters. There is an entrance fee, but it is well worth it. This is a great place for a date night, family fun or randomness. And their new location has brought many improvements making it a much nicer experience.

The Chocolate

This cafe is the cutest thing you'll ever see!!!! I think it was originally a home that was turned into a bakery. They have cakes, cupcakes, cookies, brownies, yum! They do catering too. I ordered the cazookie which is two cookies made in a pan together with ice cream on top. Sooooo good. And it is made fresh (literally - you have to wait for them to make this item - totally worth it.)
The seating areas are all throughout the house and are decorated very nicely. Great food, great atmosphere, great place!

Pizzeria 712

This is the most amazing pizza you will ever eat!!! They are all about fresh food and they do a great job of it. The mozzarella cheese is hand pulled. The toppings are unique and divine and the crust is light and delightful. We ordered dessert once and even the cake was made fresh just for us. Sooooo goooood. I sing praises to this place and their amazing pizza and wonderful atmosphere.

Rod Works

This store has the cutest home decor. Most of the items are made of iron and the products are so beautiful. I bought a beautiful piece with butterflies all over it to put on our ledge in the kitchen. So cute. Maybe sometime I'll add a picture of it. I wanted to buy everything I saw. And I am for sure going back when I need to buy a gift for someone or whenever I have extra money to spend on cute stuff. There are 5 locations - Layton, Draper, Lehi, Springville and Vegas. Here's the website:

China Garden Restaurant

Also nicknamed Best Chinese In Provo this place is sooo delicious. After going there a couple of times the owner will know who you are and ask how things are going each visit. The place is owned by a Chinese couple. The food is INCREDIBLE!!!!! I literally cannot sing enough praises in regards to the food. If you go there with a large group, order several dishes and share them all. You will not leave disappointed or hungry. It really is the Best Chinese in Provo. Go there! Always!

Sammy's Cafe

Love burgers? Me too. I didn't used to. But it is places like this that helped me to not just like burgers, but to love, enjoy and seek them out. This is a cute little cafe with lots of burger options. They have special deals going on at different time and different days of the week. The prices were good, the service was great and the food was excellent. The fries were different (in a good way) than other places. Not sure how to describe them, but they were really good! Each burger is made to order which made it really easy for me to not have pickles and onions on my burger, but Ryan could have them on his. I recommend this place to burger lovers everywhere. Oh - and they have dessert. Yum!!!

All About Pets

I love the vet that I go to. I like the location. I like the people. I like the services they provide. Making appointments is easy. They have a very good filing system and keep track of when your pet needs visits and shots, etc. They are very kind to the animals. The office is very aesthetically pleasing as well. They have always been able to answer all of my questions and are very helpful to me as a first time pet owner. I have had someone mention that they are one of the more expensive vets around town, and I have no idea what prices should be on pet services. However, the comparisons I have made don't give me the impression that they are expensive. When Lily went in to get spayed, there were different options for various things. They were very good about explaining the options, giving up front pricing, and not pressuring me to spend more money. As far as I'm concerned, this place really is all about the pets.

Jay's Jungle

This is a cute little pet shop in "Historic Downtown Provo." If you want a pet bird or a pet fish, this is the place to go! Other animals aren't as prominent in this shop, but if ever I want another pet fish, this is where I'm coming. And if for some bizarre reason I ever decide to buy a bird (which I doubt I ever will because they scare me) this is where I would go to find one.

Jeppson's Floral and Gift

This is a cute little flower shop that I pass by every time I go to Smith's on 200 West in Provo. So I decided I would go in and check it out. The shop is really cute and the employees were very helpful and knowledgeable. Their prices are clearly posted and the arrangements are beautiful. They have a 72 hour freshness guarantee on all their flowers though they usually last even longer than that; I got my flowers over a week ago and they are just now starting to wilt. I never thought 3 little carnations could look so pretty, but they wrapped them up with green leaves and it was so cute. And once I got them home and into a vase - so cute! They also deliver flowers to nearby areas. They are open Monday-Friday from 8am-6pm and Saturdays from 8am-5pm

Leaf Botanical Art

Basically you have to see it to believe it. This guy takes real leaves and makes art out of them. It sounds like something a 4 year old could do, but this guy is AMAZING!!!! It is truly a work of magnificent art what this man does. I don't own any of his work, but someday when I am rich I am buying it ALL!!!! That is how amazing it is! See for yourself: Leaf Botantical
He lives in Logan, UT so he's even a local artist. I saw his work at the Utah Arts Festival and just fell in love. Oh how I wish I was rich now!!

The Cocoa Bean - Cupcake Cafe -

The Cocoa Bean Cupcake Cafe is this adorable little shop with gourmet cupcakes. They are not only beautiful but they are absolutely delicious as well. They also serve hot chocolate and other non-caffeinated hot beverages and even some cold beverages. Each day they have different cupcakes to choose from. They have a weekly schedule that tells you which cupcakes are available on which days of the week. They are open late into the evening (11 on weeknights and midnight on weekends). They also cater for special events and make smaller sizes to order as well. There is even a location in Rexburg, Idaho (with slightly different hours). Anyway, I love this place. Ryan isn't a big cupcake fan, so I am always looking for girls to go with me to enjoy delicious cupcakes!

Molly's

Molly's is absolutely wonderful. You walk in and walk up to the counter and order. You pick what sides you want; you watch them put it all together. You pick out what type of bread you want. You pay and sit down. Sounds pretty normal, but the cafe is sooooo cute. The setup, the decorations, the design, everything, the workers - just cute. (But not so cute that only girls have to eat there.)
I ordered the daily special - it was a pulled pork and guacamole tostada. It was absolutely amazing!! Ryan had the braised beef with mashed potatoes and broccoli. I tasted a bit of his - also absolutely delicious!!!!!! The food was soooo amazing that Ryan got the beef brisket (slow roasted for 24 hours) and potatoes to go and I got the Carrot Cake to go. Yum yum yum. I cannot sing enough praises about this place.
The Lunch plate (what we ordered) was $8.75 and smaller orders are cheaper. Definitely enough food to fill you up. Ryan mentioned that the beef brisket was an incredible portion compared to other places where he's ordered such a dish. And it was cheaper than other locations.
My only complaint is that they are only open for lunch from 11-2 Tuesday through Friday. I wish they were open more often so their amazing food could be more accessible. They only opened earlier this year, so maybe extended hours are to come as they become more established. However, I don't think it will be long before this place is well known. It was very crowded while we were there; they all ready seem to have a large customer base. But that's not surprising at all with how good the food is.
In conclusion, Molly's is everything Mimi's Cafe tried to be but isn't.

Places Where I Do Business

Welcome to my new blog. I am starting this blog because I am going to write about places that I enjoy doing business - places I like to eat, stores I like to shop at, doctors I enjoy seeing (not that anyone actually enjoys seeing the doctor). A lot of the places I plan to write about are small, lesser known locations. I enjoy finding sights to see, places to go, things to eat, etc. So hopefully you will enjoy reading about the places I enjoy.
